Conversation with Louise Bourgeois, 2 books, 2022

My engagement with the visual and sculptural works of Louise Bourgeois resulted in two artist’s books. Her art became the starting point for an imaginative dialogue in which personal resonances merge with artistic reflection.

Drawings and texts evolve from the thoughts, memories, and emotions her work evokes in me. I trace the forms of specific works by Bourgeois—a way of drawing closer to them. Through the processes of drawing and writing, themes such as transience, memory, and aspects of femininity are taken up, shifted, and translated into a distinct visual context.

The artist’s books are an expression of this open-ended conversation: they document not the work of Louise Bourgeois itself, but the process of perception and transformation her art triggered within me. I view this work as an ongoing dialogue from which further artist’s books may emerge.
